'Still Life' starts in a familiar universe and bubbles up into another. The shift illustrates an appetite for personal, political and stylistic change, boiling over. The song examines feelings of being worn down and halted by progress, stagnating both in society and individually. It is about breaking free from patterns of still life defined by cyclical, repeated forms of inaction, and predictable modes of conformity.
lyrics
In this indelible life
I’ve seen as much I thought I would
Not all tasks I tried to do in spare
There is a focus that loosens with wear
In intelligible air
I can see the picture without the frame
I know we all have a cross to bear
But I’ve been carrying this feeling around with me for a while
That I don’t care.
A while. Cared for a while
In intelligible air
I can see the picture without the frame
I know we all have a cross to bear
But I’ve been carrying this feeling around with me for a while
that I don’t care,
A while now
that I can’t figure it out.
A truly stunning album that mentally transports you to foggy early morning streets, the pavement wet from recent rains. Dreary, but in a comforting way. Like sitting next to a window during a rainstorm, listening to the drops hit the glass while remaining warm. Never fails to make me feel safe. Crow Yo
Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
Shoegaze ist die Kunst des Dröhnens, doch „Everything Is Alive“ setzt diese Elemente nur sparsam ein. Statt Hall- und Zerr-Sounds aufzutürmen, schäumt die Musik in feinen Bläschen über.
